Cultural Amenities in the Tri-Cities

richland playersThe Mid-Columbia Ballet, the Richland Players and Light Opera, and the Mid-Columbia Symphony provide year-round cultural productions.  Art galleries and exhibitions showcase local, regional and national artists during indoor and outdoor exhibits.  Battelle Auditorium offers a variety of quality presentations from independent and foreign films to classics and documentaries for public viewing.  The Columbia River Exhibition of History, Science and Technology (CREHST) is a museum and science center created to tell the dynamic story of the Columbia Basin and surrounding region.  This facility features a variety of two- and three-dimensional exhibits and displays.  Visitors will be entertained with interactive, hands-on displays and activities.  From primitive irrigation systems to the development and use of robotics, you will enjoy a fascinating journey through the unique Columbia Basin region.  Other arts and culture include the Academy of Children’s Theatre, Community and Performing Arts Theater and several public libraries. 

Major Venues
The Toyota Center- The Toyota Center, formerly known as the Tri-Cities Coliseum, is a multi-purpose facility located in the heart of Kennewick, Washington. The Toyota Center annually hosts over 150 meeting room and arena events. Many great names in the music industry have played the stage at the Toyota Center. It is also the home of the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans and the Tri-Cities Fever of the Arena Football League. In addition to the sporting events and concerts, the Toyota Center plays host to consumer and trade shows, banquets, conventions, family shows, meetings and much more. Event Calendar

TRAC- TRAC Center offers a versatility that few event venues can offer to both the promoters and to the public. The complex features a 38,184 square foot Exposition Hall, 39,200, indoor dirt floor arena, 24,400 square foot Pavilion, all supported by a spacious Atrium and three conference rooms. Over 100,000 square feet of exhibit space is available, making TRAC Center one of the larger event venues in Washington. Benton County Fairgrounds- Home to the Benton Franklin Fair and Rodeo. This multipurpose, county owned facility is perfect for meetings, trade shows, livestock events, RV rallies, concerts, sporting events, day camps and weddings...a place for all kinds of activities!  Website   Event Calendar

 

Museums and Exhibitions
Columbia River Exhibition of History, Science and Technology (CREHST)-The Center features exhibits on history of the Mid-Columbia region, agriculture and food processing, Hanford history, environmental restoration, nuclear technology and Columbia River salmon habitat and restoration efforts. Admission charge. Open Mon-Sat 10-5, Sun 12-5. Website

Children's Museum of the Three Rivers- The Museum is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to learning through imagination play and discovery. There are many exhibits for children and families to explore and learn. A child's imagination will run wild as they lead the way through the museum in our hands-on and interactive exhibits. Website

East Benton County Historical Society Museum- Located in Kennewick's oldest park, the museum features the Kennewick Man, a petrified wood floor, arrowhead collection and numerous items pertaining to the settlement of the area. Website

Franklin County Historical Museum- Exhibits feature Native American artifacts, information on Lewis & Clark's Corp of Discovery, railroad development, agriculture, irrigation, area ferries and bridges, aviation and health care, as well as a wealth of local artifacts and photos. Website

LIGO Hanford Observatory- LIGO seeks to open a new window on the universe using the world's largest laser interferometers. Cutting-edge science and engineering fuel the Observatory's quest to measure the faint ripples of gravitational waves. Free public tours are given, offering 2 tours per month, one on the 2nd Saturday and one on the 4th Friday. Website

The Reach Project of the Richland Public Facilities District- Coming soon… The Hanford Reach Interpretive Center (REACH) will be the preeminent showcase  for advancing our understanding of the unique forces of Man and Nature that shape the Pacific Northwest  from the Ice Age Floods to the Manhattan Project and beyond. WA State Railroads Historical Society Museum- Discover state and local railroad history through displays, photos, and collected and donated items, including the state’s oldest existing locomotive. Open Thursday and Friday from 12 - 4,  and Saturday from 9 - 3, May. Website

White Bluffs Quilt Museum- A bright spot in this community, the Center provides exhibits & classes for adults & children in quilting, weaving, spinning, basketry, conservation & all textile arts. The Center will provide a special program for your group. Website

Art Galleries and Studios
Columbia Basin College Esvelt Gallery- The Esvelt Gallery has a 30-year history of operating through CBC Associated Student Body funding and Art Department direction to provide a wide variety of artistic experiences to our students and community. Admission is free and the public is welcome Website

Allied Arts- Allied Arts Association and gallery provides art development, awareness and education for the Mid-Columbia region of Washington State, including the cities of Pasco, Kennewick, Richland and surrounding areas. Website

Washington State University Tri-Cities Art Exhibit- The Exhibition Center is located in room 102 of the Consolidated Information Center (CIC) on the WSU-TC Campus. It is open Monday through Thursday from 12-6. Website

Performing Arts
The Richland Players- A non-profit theater that has offered a full season of live performances annually and without interruption for 63 years. Website

Ye Merrie Greenwood Players-A versatile traveling company, producers of Ye Merrie Greenwood Renaissance Faire in June along with interactive original mysteries, school programs, English Country dancing, singing, story telling, live chess, etc. Website

Battelle Performing Arts Business Center- The Battelle Performing Arts Business Center is dedicated to improving coordination, collaboration, and cooperation among the non-profit performing arts groups of the Mid-Columbia area. Website

Mid-Columbia BalletMid-Columbia Ballet- As Southeastern Washington's prestigious dance company, the Mid-Columbia Ballet (MCB) presents three dance performances throughout the year. In addition to the traditional holiday Nutcracker performances, MCB also presents a children's ballet and an evening of exciting dance in the spring. Website

Mid-Columbia Symphony- The Symphony performs live classical and popular music for Mid-Columbia residents. This season, the Symphony's 61st year, features four concerts offering a variety of enriching entertainment and cultural experiences. Website

Mid-Columbia Mastersingers- Premier regional 40-voice choral ensemble presents outstanding classical vocal performances of the highest level of choral music, representative of all styles and periods.  Four main-stage concerts Oct - May. Website

Academy of Children's Theatre- The Academy of Children's Theatre provides educational opportunities in the theatre arts for young people of all abilities and levels of interest with a unique mission to provide theatre experiences for and by the youth of the greater Mid-Columbia. Website

Richland Light Opera Company- In the more than fifty years since that first performance, the Richland Light Opera Company has produced over ninety operas and musicals. Each show averages approximately 25 to 50 performers. Website

The Havre Team's Favorite Cultural Events
Art in the Park- The 61st outdoor festival will be held July 2011 in Howard Amon Park in Richland. The Art in the Park show features artists and craftsman offering a unique array of photography, jewelry, metal art, furniture, pottery, paintings, glass art and much more. There will be artists demonstrating, delicious food, good music and shuttle service. July 29-30th 2011. Website 

The Nutcracker- Every year in December by the Mid-Columbia Ballet. Website

Atomic City Rollerderby- The Atomic City Rollergirls is the original women's flat-track roller derby league based in the Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick), in southeastern Washington state! Founded in 2007, we are a skater-run nonprofit organization focused on elevating the quality of women's amateur athletics and giving back to the community. Website

The Living Nativity- Annual nativity show by a local community church. Website

Sausage Festival- Admission to Sausage Fest is FREE and includes 26 games for kids of all ages with great prizes, 12 food booths with over 30 different foods, indoor and outdoor Biergartens, with live entertainment, Arts & Crafts, Bingo, Granny's Attic, a Farmer's Market, plus middle and high school dances. Food and game prices have remained low for many years to provide an inexpensive, enjoyable time for families in our community. September. Website

Pumpkin Patch and Harvest Festival- Annual event held at many locations around the Tri-Cities. Michelle's favorite pumpkin patch and festival is at the Country Merchantile in Pasco. Website

Hogs and Dogs- Annual hotdog and Harley festival. June. Website

Cool Desert Nights-a three-day classic car and street rod event, is open to all vehicle makes and models. Next year marks our 18th year, Cool Desert Nights features car cruises, street dances, a Show ‘n Shine, games & activities, pancake breakfast, judging, awards & more. June.  Website
